Bed bumpers – bedton braided bumpers for babies
A bed bumper is one of the first accessories parents choose when preparing a room for a newborn. A soft braid wrapped around the bed bars protects the baby from bumping their head or getting their arms and legs stuck, insulates from a cold wall, and gives the sleeping area a cosy, stylish look. It is a product that combines both a protective and a decorative function – which is why it is one of the most frequently purchased additions to children’s beds.
Luletto offers bumpers in three thickness options: 3-strand, 4-strand, and 5-strand, each available in dozens of velvet fabric colours and in a freely chosen length. All bumpers are shipped from a separate warehouse, so they are not delivered on the same day as the bed.
Material and composition – bedton velvet with anti-allergic filling
All Luletto bumpers are made from velvet fabric composed of 96% high-quality bedton (150 g/m²) and 4% elastane. The elastane gives the fabric slight stretch, which allows the bumper to fit the bed bars well and keep its shape during use. The bedton velvet fabric is soft, pleasant to the touch, and safe for a baby’s sensitive skin.
The filling consists of fluffy anti-allergic silicone balls. This type of filling is light, springy, and does not clump after washing – the bumper keeps its volume for a long time. It does not contain irritating materials, latex, or allergenic substances.
Each braid comes with decorative ties in a matching colour, used to attach the bumper to the bed bars. The ties prevent the braid from shifting or loosening during use.
What is the difference between a 3-, 4-, and 5-strand bumper?
The number of strands indicates how many fabric tubes are braided together. Each tube is one plaited strand filled with silicone balls. The more strands, the thicker, fuller, and more visually decorative the bumper becomes.
3-strand bumper
Three braided strands create a thin, delicate braid. This is a choice for parents who value subtle design – the bumper protects the baby but does not visually dominate the bed arrangement. It is ideal for beds with closely spaced bars, where the main function is protection from head bumps. See the full colour range in the 3-strand bumpers category.
4-strand bumper – PLN 169
Four strands create a noticeably thicker and fuller braid. This is the most popular version in the Luletto range – available in the widest selection of colours and shades. A 4-strand bumper is thick enough to effectively protect against bumps and trapped limbs, while at the same time decorative enough to become the main colour accent of the bed. See the full colour range in the 4-strand bumpers category.
5-strand bumper
Five strands create the thickest and most striking version in the collection. A 5-strand braid is highly visible, rich in appearance, and works especially well in room arrangements where the bumper is meant to be the main decorative element. See the full colour range in the 5-strand bumpers category.
Braid dimensions – how to measure it properly
Each Luletto bumper is 6 cm wide and 20 cm high (±10%). The length is selected by the customer from the available options and may vary slightly (±10%). This makes it possible to match the bumper precisely to the bed size.
The manufacturer provides a clear size guide:
-
60 cm – fits one shorter side of a 120 × 60 cm bed
-
120 cm – fits one longer side of a 120 × 60 cm bed
-
140 cm – fits one longer side of a 140 × 70 cm bed
-
180 cm – fits both shorter sides and one longer side of a 120 × 60 cm bed
-
200 cm – fits half of a 120 × 60 cm bed or half of a 140 × 70 cm bed
-
240 cm – fits one longer and one shorter side of a toddler bed, e.g. 80 × 160 cm

If you need a bumper in a non-standard size or a colour combination not available in the current range, you can contact Luletto by email to arrange an individual order.
Available colours – a rich velvet palette
Luletto bumpers are available in one of the richest colour palettes on the market. Velvet fabric offers deep, soft shades that photograph beautifully and give the bed an elegant appearance. Selected colours include:
-
Neutral and classic: white, grey, graphite, latte, dark beige, beige
-
Pastel and delicate: mint, sage, baby blue, dusty salmon, light pink, pink, pink-grey-white
-
Bold and trendy: cherry pink, brick, bottle green, eucalyptus, denim, cinnamon
-
Multicolour: pink-white-cherry, pink-grey-white, and other contrasting combinations
Each colour is available in 3-, 4-, and/or 5-strand versions. This rich palette makes it possible to match the bumper precisely to the wall colour, bedding, or furniture – both in soft pastel interiors and in more modern, expressive designs.
What is the bumper for – protective and decorative function
Protection against bumps and trapped limbs
The original function of the braid is to protect the baby from hitting their head against the bed bars and from getting their legs or arms stuck between them during sleep. The soft, springy silicone filling absorbs impact and creates a gentle barrier along the entire bed side covered by the bumper.
Insulation from a cold wall
A braid placed along the side of the bed positioned by the wall creates additional thermal insulation. This prevents the warm body of a sleeping child from coming into contact with a cold wall or window surface.
bed and sofa decoration
A braided bumper is one of the most popular decorative elements in baby and children’s rooms. Wrapped around the bed bars, it creates a soft, colourful border that gives the bed a cosy character. After it is no longer used as a bed bumper, the braid can serve as a decorative cushion on a sofa in a child’s or teenager’s room.
Care and washing
Velvet fabric requires delicate care. Luletto recommends:
-
hand washing or machine washing on a delicate programme, max. 30°C
-
washing inside out to protect the velvet texture
-
drying flat, without wringing – avoid spinning
-
after drying, the braid can be gently reshaped with your hands to restore the volume of the filling
The ties used to attach the bumper to the bed bars should be removed before washing or tied loosely so that they do not get tangled in the washing machine drum.
Important delivery information
bed bumpers are shipped from a second, separate warehouse. This means that even if you order the bumper together with the bed, they may arrive in separate shipments and at different times. When planning the arrangement of a child’s room, it is worth taking this into account and ordering the bumper in advance.

Frequently asked questions about bed bumpers
Is a braided bumper safe for a newborn?
A Luletto braided bumper is filled with anti-allergic silicone balls and made from bedton velvet fabric. The materials are safe and soft. However – in line with paediatric recommendations and child safety organisations – all bed bumpers should be used under parental supervision and removed from the bed when the baby starts rolling over and moving independently. A bumper does not replace adult supervision.
What bumper length should I choose for a 120 × 60 cm bed?
For a 120 × 60 cm bed, the following options are available: 60 cm (one shorter side), 120 cm (one longer side), 180 cm (two sides: shorter + longer), 340 cm (all around the entire bed). The most popular choice is 340 cm if you want to protect all four sides.
What length should I choose for a 140 × 70 cm bed?
For a 140 × 70 cm bed: 140 cm (one longer side), 200 cm (half the bed), 400 cm (all around the entire bed). For toddler beds in size 80 × 160 cm, 240 cm covers one longer and one shorter side.
What is the difference between a 3-, 4-, and 5-strand bumper?
The number of strands refers to the number of braided tubes making up the braid. The more strands, the thicker, fuller, and more decorative the bumper. The 3-strand bumper (PLN 99) is subtle, the 4-strand bumper (PLN 169) is a balance between thickness and price, and the 5-strand bumper is the most substantial. All three versions provide the same level of protection.
Can the bumper be washed in a washing machine?
Yes, on a delicate programme at max. 30°C. Washing inside out is recommended. Avoid spinning and dry flat. It is best to remove the ties or tie them loosely before washing.
Can I order a bumper in a non-standard colour or size?
Yes. Luletto is flexible in this regard – if the colour or size you need is not available in the online range, you can contact the manufacturer by email to arrange an individual order.
Will the bumper arrive together with the bed?
No. Bumpers are shipped from a separate warehouse, which means they may arrive at a different time from the ordered bed or other furniture. It is worth keeping this in mind when planning delivery and ordering the bumper well in advance.
