Pine Wood Bed

Among fragrant pine branches, squirrels, woodpeckers, crossbills, finches, and many other animal species find shelter and food. Humans, too, appreciated the remarkable properties of pine centuries ago and have used it not only as a remedy (essential oils, pine shoot syrup) and a natural source of jewelry material (amber), but also as an excellent raw material for furniture making. Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) is an easily renewable tree species: it grows quickly, has relatively low requirements, and only dislikes polluted air.

Pine Wood – An Eco-Friendly Choice

The pine trees from which we source wood for our furniture are grown specifically for this purpose. There is no question of cutting down old, naturally formed forest stands. Harvested trees are quickly replaced with new ones. Scots pine can grow up to 45 meters tall, although it usually does not exceed 30 meters in height and 0.5–1.2 meters in trunk diameter, and it is considered a fast-growing species. Importantly, pine nurseries do not require watering, pines can even grow in sandy soil. What is more, pine is resistant to most pests and can withstand temperatures as low as -60°C. It is a pleasant thought, isn’t it, to imagine lying in a warm pine bed under a thick duvet?

Pine Wood Bed – Furniture for Years to Come

Pine wood is a very rewarding material. It is softer than hardwood from deciduous trees, yet it also offers strong resistance to shocks and impacts. Pine wood is light in color, usually with a creamy tone, although some varieties are almost white while others have a more yellow tone. Thanks to its light shade, pine can easily be finished in almost any color, unless you decide to keep its natural tone and simply protect it with a suitable lacquer.

Furniture made from pine wood is also lighter than, for example, beech furniture, which is especially important in a child’s room. It is much easier to move such furniture to retrieve a toy that has fallen behind it or to rearrange the room. Anyone who has ever decorated a Christmas tree also knows how much weight pine branches can carry. It is precisely thanks to this quality of pine that furniture made from pine wood is so long-lasting.

A Pine Bed – A Piece of the Forest in Your Home

Now we would like to appeal to your imagination. Try to feel the touch of pine needles on your hand, sense the scent of pine oils, and the gentle breeze moving the branches. And if you were brave enough to follow a colorful crossbill to the top of the tree, you would see a beautiful view stretching out belo, a vast forest and a blue sky with the sun shining brightly, which pine trees love so much. That is why they grow so fast.

You may also think of the times when amber pines grew where the Baltic Sea lies today, leaving behind resin in that beautiful form we know as amber, sometimes even with the needles of this ancestor of today’s pine trees preserved inside.

If you would like to show yourself or your children just how extraordinary pine is, we can recommend a trip to Sulechów to see the Rzepicha Pine, which has - attention! - a circumference of 586 cm.

Another remarkable specimen is the pine tree in the village of Wełecz, which looks as if it is walking on its roots. Or perhaps it is one of Tolkien’s Ents?

A bed does not have to be just an ordinary piece of furniture for sleeping. Children know this very well, turning it into a place of play and adventure. But if we also tell them a little about what such a bed is made of, and show them extraordinary pine trees - even if only in pictures online - then it can truly become a magical and one-of-a-kind piece of furniture.

Sweet dreams!
