7 Coolest Play Ideas for a House Bed
Even in summer, the weather does not always cooperate, and rainy days can quickly become boring for children. Here are a few ideas that can turn windy, rainy afternoons into something truly fun.
Shadow Theatre in a Wooden House Bed
If you hang a sheet over the “roof” of the house bed, cover the windows (or simply wait until evening), and your child climbs inside with friends or toys armed with a flashlight, you can create a beautiful shadow theatre. Even the shyest children will enjoy it, because while we can see their silhouettes behind the sheet and hear their voices, they will not see us watching them, which helps them feel comfortable.
In such a shadow theatre, children can perform on their own or with the help of stuffed animals or puppets. They can invent their own stories, developing creativity, or they can read a fairy tale or play one from a recording and move the characters to illustrate the story.
A House Bed as a Vehicle: a Ship, a Carriage or a Balloon
If your child loves travel and adventure, but the weather is not encouraging outdoor play, you can help transform their wooden house bed into a means of transport. If they want to travel by hot air balloon, they must remember to throw out sandbags from time to time (pillows) in order to rise higher. If it is to be a ship, you can make a sail from a small sheet. Just watch out for sharks and pirates! If the bed is a bunk bed, the upper part can become a crow’s nest for observation, from which your little one can give orders during a storm.
By arranging pillows in two rows facing each other and covering the bed with a colourful bedspread or duvet, you can create an elegant carriage taking your daughter to a ball. You just have to watch out for robbers hiding in the forest!
A Wooden House Bed as a Chief’s Shelter, a Shah’s Castle or Baba Yaga’s Hut
A wooden tipi-style house bed is the perfect place for an Indian chief, hidden from the sight of others, to make plans for finding the treasure of the Maya.
Filled all the way to the “roof” with colourful pillows, a pine children’s bed can easily become the Shah’s castle or a tower where a princess is imprisoned.
And if the children love the story of Hansel and Gretel, there is no better place to create the hut of the wicked Baba Yaga than a wooden bed with a drawer, which can pretend to be the oven.
And when, after a whole day of fun, your little one is already tired, all you need to do is tuck them comfortably into their castle, ship or tipi and let them dream their boldest dreams. The only thing that limits the fun in a house bed is our imagination!
